ABOUT

Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria was considered a great admirer and patron of the arts who spared no expense in employing the best composers of the day at his court. He was also a patron of the Italian violinist and composer Michele Mascitti, who later achieved fame above all in Paris. There he published 116 works between 1704 and 1738 – most of them sonatas for violin and basso continuo. Wilhelmine of Bayreuth, for her part, was taught by Johann Pfeiffer, among others, who himself remained in Bayreuth until his death and contributed significantly to the musical culture at Wilhelmine’s court, which was known far beyond the borders of the country. Maximilian III Joseph of Bavaria, grandson of Maximilian II Emanuel, also loved music, but he lacked the money to maintain the musical splendour of his ancestors. Instead, he distinguished himself as a composer and gave himself and the world 12 trio sonatas for two violins and basso continuo, among other gifts.

Together with musicians from the ensemble {oh!} Orkiestra, the Upper Silesian violinist Martyna Pastuszka makes the musical splendour of the Bavarian courts resound anew!
